Introducing the Blobs!

Speechmark introduce the Blobs, they are here to help initiate discussion and reflection about feelings and emotions.

What are the Blobs?

Blobs are neither male nor female, young or old, slave or free! They are open to interpretation.

Blobs are successful in almost every context, with every people group, in every age. They cross so many boundaries because they speak the universal languages of emotion and body gestures. The Blobs are beautiful humans who are full of imperfections. They display a whole range of qualities that we might admire or despise. They interact with all aspects of what it is to be fully human.

Each character could be you, your best friend or a personal enemy. What's true for you might be completely the opposite for someone else. Blobs are a way to discuss issues in a deep, meaningful way and yet they can be understood by adults and children alike. You might look at a sheet and say that you feel like one Blob today, but tomorrow be a completely different Blob. You might find that a friend sees you in a completely opposite way!

You could use each Blob picture in a groupwork situation to stimulate discussion about how a team feels about itself.

"The more you look at the materials the greater number of uses you can see for them. Anyone who buys these books will find them of enormous value in promoting pupils' emotional and physical well being and safety...worth every penny."
Carol Smart, SNIP

The Big Book of Blobs and The Big Book of Blob Feelings are both photocopiable resources that come with a free CD-ROM containing the whole book so that you can use the activities over and over again. You can buy both books at a saving!
